Musical Theatre combines Singing with Modern Theatre Dance and Drama.
Dance: Children are taught the basic physical exercises necessary to achieve dance to a competent level of performance. (See 'Introducing Moderm Theatre Dance')
Singing: Vocal exercises and techniques are introduced: to develop a range of singing styles; to enhance crisp articulation; to help to project and strengthen the voice producing a full but pleasant sound; to explore harmony and tuning whilst developing listening skills; to have the opportunity to sing as part of a choir and/or as a soloist.
Drama: Scripted work and improvisation skills are explored and students are invited to take LAMDA examinations in 'Acting' or 'The Speaking of Verse and Prose.' (See Introducing Drama)
Scenes are taken from shows so that the students learn where a song sits within a story. They produce the song as a show piece with actions and dance (if appropriate) or as part of the dramatic action of the play. Students are encouraged to create their own scenes and dances as part of their musical improvisation.
Principal singing roles in our annual musical are auditioned from students in these classes. All Musical Theatre classes perform in our annual show at The De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on Sea.
